Jun 6 2005 11:38AMRussian minister seeks analysis of Andizhan riot
MOSCOW. June 6 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov
said countries which have access to information about the activities of
terrorists in Uzbekistan should assess the impact of the May riot in the
eastern city of Andizhan.
"There is information that allows us to assume that numerous
extremist groups such as Hizb-ut-Tahrir, the Islamic Movement of
Uzbekistan, Taliban and Chechen terrorists played a role in organizing
those events. This information has come from a variety of sources and we
are now verifying it," Lavrov said in an interview with Russia's Vremya
Novostie newspaper published on Monday.
"We want states which, like Russia, have an opportunity to receive
this information to compare their data and try to assess the gravity [of
the Andizhan events]. And I would like to say to journalists who are
speaking about this information as something sensational that they have
forgotten that we have mentioned it more than once," the minister said.
